This hotel oozes old-world charm and elegance the moment you step in. Staff are wonderfully warm and friendly. We were mistakenly put into a standard room when first checking in but they corrected the error immediately after we inquired.

The Superior room is good in all aspects: a nice bed with plenty of pillow choices, desk, chair, the works. Internet is fast compared to some other hotels I’ve stayed in. The bathroom is a decent size with nice toiletries…very classy indeed. The only thing I missed was a pair of bathroom slippers, that would have been nice especially during winter time. Aside from that, no complaints.

Dining was a pleasure in the bar and pub. Food is good and tasty. We tried the Continental breakfast, which was good value for money. You can hardly find a finer ambience to dine in than in this hotel!

Ellise, the front desk receptionist, was a treat. Super friendly and always ready to exchange some friendly banter with me. 

All in all, my girlfriend and I had an enjoyable stay in this hotel and we will definitely consider staying here again should we make another trip to Hobart.

Rocco and Patricia added such a special touch to our weekend at MONA Foma, offering so much useful info on things to do around Hobart and giving us a cozy place to rest at the end of a long day. They know so much about Mona and breakfast conversation was always interesting. We loved the home baked treats and garden, and felt incredibly welcome in their home. Highly recommend this for MONA fans, or anyone wanting a charming place to retreat to for a few nights.

We stayed at the Fountainside Hotel for 3 nights for Dark Mofo and found the hotel to be wonderful. Even though the location of the hotel is on the side of a roundabout and we had a room facing the roundabout we didn’t find the noise an issue at all.
It was close (walking distance) to all the things we wanted to see and do plus the added bonus of onsite parking. 
Our room was really big with a wonderful size bathroom and lots of space for toiletries (sadly missing in some places we have stayed).
We would definitely recommend the Fountainside and would stay here again.

 

We stayed her for 3 nights on our first visit to Hobart and really enjoyed our stay. It was so quiet yet so close to everything. Beautiful views from our room of Tasman Bridge especially at night.i would recommend the spa room,,so relaxing after a big day of sightseeing. we enjoyed the cooled breakfast every morning…and the coffee machine for a coffee anytime.

Portsea Place feels like a home rather than a characterless hotel room. The apartments have all that you need & I liked that they have good lighting unlike many hotels. Bed is comfortable, kitchen has everything including good choice of drinks you can purchase although the wine is not Tasmanian. My room downstairs had a good layout but a friend had the one next door (56B) & the bed was under the window & desk elsewhere which didn’t quite work & made it awkward to get in through the door. I was very happy with my room layout though (58B). Also, some TripAdvisor reviews say the Executive Studio rooms were very small. I totally disagree. There was plenty of room. Bec from Portsea is very helpful & nearby if you need her. Salamanca Place with supermarket & lovely galleries is a 5 min walk down the street (downhill) & around the corner on Hampden Rd there is a great selection of eateries. Sandy Bay also not far to walk. There were people waling by the window but this didn’t bother me as didn’t go on late even for a Fri & Sat night. (One guy did puke up next door but soon moved on!) The area around there is lovely for a walk – even at night with 5 degree temperatures! (Stayed end of May). I enjoyed walking around the most. And it’s not that far to walk further into town (I walked all the way from the Botanic Gardens). I will stay here again for sure. Thanks Trevor & Bec!

Very comfortable rooms, great location and friendly staff. We enjoyed a wonderful meal in their restaurant, one of the nicest we have had in a long time. Highly recommend this hotel. Request a room facing away from the street as was a little bit noisy.

Have just returned from a wonderful weekend in Launceston staying at Highfield. Stayed in the Elizabeth suite. The room was beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable. All our needs were catered for and we felt well looked after. Arrived early and appreciated an early check in which we had not pre arranged. A quick phone call and we were easily through the process for gaining the key. Breakfast served in a delightful room and enjoyed the range of quality food on offer. We would definitely return on our next visit to Launceston.

We had a wonderful stay here for 3 nights. Our room was very comfortable with an easterly aspect. The bed was very comfortable and the room quite spacious. Our hostess was very welcoming and we had the use of the front lounge and also there is access to the laundry facilities if required. Continental breakfast was supplied the night before in our room which was great as we could eat when we felt like it. It is a short walk to the Cataract Gorge and also a short walk to the CBD. As others have mentioned there is off street parking as well. This is a definite recommendation.

This was our first stop in Tasmania & it set the bar high! The hosts were very welcoming, warm & friendly & the property is fabulous & while we were told we had a small room it wasn’t small to us. The decor was to our taste being black & white themed & it was well equipped. If something electrical is not in the room the hosts will supply it but they quite rightly, have a concern with careless guests leaving things plugged in when they go out. 
The location is good & it is on a busy road but we had no problem sleeping. The bed was very comfy. Walking may be a challenge as the streets are very steep.
Little things like fresh milk in the fridge & fresh flowers in the room made a difference.
They don’t like you eating in the room but there are tables outside & also you are welcome to eat at the table in the breakfast room, so self catering is not a problem. There are very nice restaurants & plenty of them in Launceston though. The hosts are keen to recommend them & other things to do during the stay. Loved it there.
